FAITH Meaningful Fashion – the story behind our bags
In 2011, the idea was born by Marcel and Sylvie Bobay, two of our FAITH Key Ambassadors, to up-cycle old, unused FAITH kites into fashionable bags in order to support educational programs for under-privileged children in Sri Lanka. Ranjith played a major role in this story. At that time, he was the “handyman” of Friends Lanka Child Foundation, the organization to which the income of the bags was supposed to go to. Sylvie discovered his incredible talent for tailoring and got him a second hand sewing machine with which he produced the first FAITH bag in 2012. The quality of the first bag was surprisingly good so that they all together decided to go ahead with the idea. As the project combines Fair Trade, Up-cycling, and Social Engagement all in one, it was pretty easy to create a suitable name for the new sub-brand of FAITH Kiteboarding: FAITH Meaningful Fashion was born.
In 2015, Ranjith has quit his previous job and registered his own tailoring business with the support of FAITH. Today we offer different bag models: female and male messenger bags and different sizes of laptop bags. More models are to come soon. Every bag is unique as handmade by Ranjith by different parts of a kite.
